Our Purpose
The purpose of this Center is to provide a central communication office for Aboriginal Elders, their family and support workers in B.C. (no such network exists for Elders on or off reserve).
This Center has achieved and will continue to achieve this purpose by:
- Organizing an Elders network of Elders representatives: i.e. Elders Presidents, Secretaries, First Nation's Band Office staff members, Health Workers, Social Development Workers, Councillors, and in some cases the Chiefs themselves who all act as the liaison to their Elders population.
- Providing a toll-free number, email, fax, and address where people can contact someone whose job is solely to help with Elders related matters.
- Publishing the provincial newsletter the "Elders Voice" each month and forwarding it to Elders Contact people in each community, thereby continuously distributing information to the many thousands of Aboriginal Elders in our province.
- The eventual mailing of the monthly issues of the "Elders Voice" directly to all Elders in B.C.
- The launch of the first ever B.C. Elders Website - "Preserving the Past" (Aug. 31, 2002)
The Website will be an open communication for all people around the world to read and garner knowledge concerning our respected Aboriginal Elders, what they are involved in, what their life stands for and what their future is to be.
