Over the last 2 years goals for this Center's Elders Network have been reached by first contacting all First Nations offices to help them define who their Elders contact is, or will be (this process is on-going and sometimes time consuming), and was also the initial stages of the compiling of information for the first ever B.C. Elders Registry; which will one day encompass all Aboriginal Elders both on and [most especially] those living off of the reservation (as it is even more difficult to be informed about anything when you live off the reserve).

Our Objectives

  • That the Elders all know that they are valued, that their legacy will be preserved and that their feelings and culture matter.
  • That Elders, family members, and Coordinators will have the tools available to them to keep current on news concerning their health issues, news from each other's territories and on anything else that pertains to them to better their lives.
  • That the Annual Gatherings will be made easier to operate and that fundraising will be made easier for the Host communities and for the Elders Groups who attend.
(Since Elders Gatherings are hosted in different communities each year, the constant fundraising, Elders registrations, and people just wanting to find out where the next Gathering is to be, have all proven to be very difficult over this event's 26-year history).
  • This Center will strive towards the ultimate goal of assisting with fundraising for the B.C. Elders, especially for those smaller communities where fundraising is the most difficult.
  • This Center is in the process of helping the first B.C. Elders Council (of Aboriginal Elders) to form to represent the Elders interests in B.C. and this Center will be the main communicator to the Elders Council and from the Elders Council to the First Nations communities and to the Provincial and Federal Governments.
